Deze keer lijkt het menens te zijn – hoewel je met die mannen nooit echt zeker kan zijn. In mei van dit jaar zou de nieuwste Indiana Jones-film dan toch eindelijk in productie gaan. Regisseur Steven Spielberg heeft zelfs zijn plannen voor een bioic over Abraham Lincoln uitgesteld om het vierde deel van de avonturenreeks te kunnen maken. Het scenario van het nog ongetitelde Indiana Jones 4 (200 is geschreven door David Koepp. De bioscooprelease staat gepland voor mei 2008. The Hollywood Reporter had zelfs een quote van Spielberg:
"George Lucas, Harrison Ford and I are all very excited. We feel that the script was well worth the wait. We hope it delivers everything you'd expect from our history with Indiana Jones."

Er zijn echter weinig details bekend over het definitieve verhaal, behalve dat de 64-jarige leeftijd van Ford zal worden erkend. Ook zal het personage van Indiana's vader terugkeren. Sean Connery speelde deze rol in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), maar of hij opnieuw kan worden gestrikt is nog onbekend. Als het script goed genoeg is weet ik dat Sean Connery deze kans om opnieuw met Spielberg te werken niet aan zijn neus laat voorbijgaan. Ik hoop echt dat het er uiteindelijk van komt, want ik heb al verschillende keren gesproken van een "groen licht" die uiteindelijk toch oranje bleek te zijn. Zal er dan toch schot in de zaak komen ...?
John Williams zal de muziek verzorgen en Janusz Kaminski (Munich, Minority Report) neemt plaats achter de camera. Frank Marshall zal de producent worden, samen met Lucas en Kathy Kennedy als executive producers. Het zijn allemaal bekende gezichten die elkaar terugvinden op deze Indy film. "Working with Steven, Frank, Kathy and the 'Indy' crew is like working with family," zei Lucas. "These films are such great fun to make. I'm looking forward to reuniting with the team and starting this new journey." Ook Harrison Ford is blij met de nieuwe ontwikkeling: "I'm delighted to be back in business with my old friends," zegt Harrison, "I don't know if the pants still fit, but I know the hat will."
Raiders of the Lost Ark de eerste film uit de reeks, werd uitgebracht in 1981, gevolgd door Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984 en Last Crusade in 1989. De drie films samen hebben ondertussen zo’n 14 Academy Award nominaties op zak, 7 Oscars en bracht bijna 1,2 miljard dollar op wereldwijd. Deel 4 wordt misschien niet zo GROOTS als Star Wars, maar het zal niet veel schelen.

Het staat op indianajones.com, dus kunnen we zeker zijn da het menens is deze keer. Momenteel wordt de film door de fans "Indiana Jones and the Ravages of Time" genoemd, wat natuurlijk een grap is. Het zou het beste script tot nu toe zijn.
Over de terugkeer van Sean Connery twijfel ik wa aangezien hij op pensioen is, maar we zien nog wel.

Paramount and Lucasfilm have provided us with a brand new, exclusive image from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which you can see below and which is printed in full in the new issue of Empire, on sale Friday, along with another new still of Cate Blanchett in action as Agent Spalko. We also spoke with producer Frank Marshall about the fourth film in the Indy franchise.
"This picture is locked," Marshall told us of the current progress. "Steven's pretty much done editing. And we're going into the phase with John Williams where he starts scoring the movie. He's really writing now and then we'll start scoring in February".

When asked where this movie sits tonally with the rest of the series, Marshall said: "I would say it's closest to the third one (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). It's all adults. I mean, you have the sidekick in Shia (LaBeouf), but you don't have a Short Round and I think the banter between the characters is as fun as it was in the third movie".
A new Last Crusade would be just dandy by us. When not discussing the finer nuances of Fassbinder or trying on Vulcan ears, we in the Empire office like to argue over which is the best Indy movie. There's currently a heated battle between the Raiders and Crusade teams.
One last piece of info: there will be an Indiana Jones Mr Potato Head. Greatest toy ever? Yes, readers, it just might be.

Indiana Jones is 59, ik vind da Harrison Ford er zo uitziet.
